Review of Typeface Poems And A Bunch of Other Random What Not by Jive Poetic

“Jive Poetic’s first book Typeface Poems is a soul searching quest for definitions. These poems use the discussion of immigration, inheritance and what it means to be an American to conclude some people, some situations and some words while commonly used truly hold no definition. Amidst this quest, the book is dotted with portraits of relationships: between father and son, mother and son and between lovers who are toxic to each other. Each of these poems attempts to define what it means to be a member of society and what it means to be a person experiencing love. Jive Poetic’s book moves from poem to poem like a CD moves from song to song.  Haikus serve as the introduction to longer poems with the same titles. Prose poems detail thoughts, experiences that shaped ideas for poems and the loneliness of international travel, and then are followed by the poem written upon the author’s return to his home.  This book is fluid in its randomness and in its journey across continents and through the dictionary.”
